Chapter Eleven
‘Fish out of water’ barely covered how lost Atticus felt as he and Talullah approached the most opulent castle he’d ever seen. Not a single inch of it didn’t sparkle and shine with every imaginable jewel of sea and the gleaning white coral floors and columns carved with different scenes of Poseidon’s heroism was truly amazing, and then there was the God of the Sea himself.
Standing with his back to them as the Dragon and his Mermaid entered the throne room, Atticus noted the wide set of his shoulders just barely perceivable under the god’s long, flowing light blue hair, the gleaming gold crown up on his head and the glowing trident gripped tightly in his right hand. Speaking over his shoulder as he snapped his finger and the entire glass wall in front of him turned into what the Guardsman could only assume was the viewing screen Drákon had briefly mentioned, Poseidon’s voice was sharp and commanding. “See there?” He pointed high to the left side, Atticus immediately locating the inky, black stain covering what he instantly knew to be the bubble Tallullah had promised to explain to him.
Taking comfort in the fact that he and his Mermaid’s minds were irrevocably connected, as he growled, “The Afanc,” and she quickly replied, “Got it in one.”
Directing his full attention back to the God of the Sea, Atticus listened closely as he looked around the room easily identifying the women who were the Daughters of Poseidon from the females who were part of the Sentinels. All that mattered was keeping Talullah safe and exacting his revenge on the Afanc.
“The bloody bastards are somehow breaking through my magic, penetrating the mystical enclosure that has kept us safe for so very many millennia.” Poseidon’s growl demanded Atticus’ attention. “I can only assume that someone, some god, is helping them, and I have a feeling it strikes uncomfortably close to home.”
“Uncle Hades,” several of the Demi-Goddesses snarled in unison.
Turning and looking each person in attendance in the eye, the God of the Sea slowly nodded, “Aye, it surely is my brother, or someone acting on his behalf, so, we must launch our defense cautiously. Not only is Hades the King of the Underworld, but he can tap into every dark soul and malevolent magic in both Hell and Purgatory.”
Returning his gaze to the constantly growing oily, black stain caused by the monstrous Horde of the scourge of the sea, Atticus tapped into the darkness of his soul, let himself fall out of the light of his mate and opened the floodgates. Gripping Talullah’s hand tightly as all the madness and mania, all the memories and pain, every single moment of agony he’d been made to suffer because of the Afanc, the Guardsman welcomed the rage, invited the fury, and called to Caderyn. “Cannae, we use the’
